Connecting solar and batteries in Logan
Logan is on the Energex network, which covers South East Queensland. Energex sets the rules for connecting solar and batteries, whichever retailer you buy power from.
Step 1: Approval comes first
Energex must approve every solar and battery system before it's installed, including systems that don't export. Your installer usually applies for you.
Step 2: Basic connection limits
A standard connection allows up to 10 kVA of inverter capacity and up to 5 kW of exports per phase. Most homes are single phase.
Step 3: Dynamic connections
Energex also offers dynamic connections, which can allow exports of up to 10 kW per phase when the grid has room, and drop back to a low fixed limit if the connection loses its signal. Ask installers whether one suits your system.
Step 4: Emergency backstop
New and replacement systems of 10 kVA or more need a generation signalling device, so the network can switch solar off in a grid emergency. Energex's factsheet puts the device at around $130 plus installation, so check it's in the quote.
Incentives for homes in Logan
These are the incentives open to homes in the area. Your installer normally applies the federal discounts to the quoted price.
- Solar: small-scale technology certificates (STCs) reduce the price of eligible systems. Logan postcodes are in the Clean Energy Regulator's zone 3, which sets how many certificates a system earns.
- Batteries: the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program discounts eligible batteries through the same certificate scheme.
- Queensland's Battery Booster rebate has closed, and there's no Queensland solar rebate for owner-occupiers.
- Landlords: Queensland's Supercharged Solar for Renters program helps with the cost of solar on rented homes, with the tenant's consent.
Feed-in tariffs and electricity prices
South East Queensland, including Logan, is a competitive electricity market. Retailers set their own solar feed-in tariffs, and there's no regulated minimum feed-in tariff here, so compare retail offers once your system is connected.
The Australian Energy Regulator's Default Market Offer caps standing offer prices in South East Queensland. From 1 July 2026, retailers in Default Market Offer areas also have to provide a Solar Sharer Offer with free electricity during three hours in the middle of the day, which needs a smart meter. It can suit households with a battery or flexible daytime use.
Worth asking about in Logan
- Building in a new estate? Ask your builder what's included. Some new homes come with a small system, and adding panels or a battery later is simpler if the switchboard and inverter are planned for it.
- On a rural property? Some are supplied by a single-wire earth return (SWER) line. Energex's basic connection limits exports on SWER lines to 2 kW in total, so ask the installer to check how your property is supplied before sizing the system.
- Larger acreage homes often have three-phase power. Energex's limits apply per phase, so a three-phase home can usually connect a larger system. Ask the installer to confirm your supply.
- All electrical work must be done by a licensed electrician. Ask for the installer's licence and accreditation details with the quote.
