Frequently asked questions
Is Energy Quotes free to use?
Yes. Requesting quotes through Energy Quotes is free for homeowners and businesses, and there's no obligation to go ahead with any quote.
Does Energy Quotes install solar or batteries?
No. Energy Quotes is an independent quote-comparison service. We connect you with participating installers, who provide their own quotes and carry out the installation. Your contract is with the installer you choose.
How many installers will contact me?
Up to 3. We only share your request with participating installers who service your postcode and offer the product you asked about. In some areas fewer installers are available.
How are installers chosen?
Installers are matched on the product you asked for (solar, battery or both), whether the property is residential or commercial, and whether they service your postcode. Our team reviews each request before it's shared.
What happens to my details?
We use your details to arrange quotes and share them only with the installers matched to your request, as explained in our Privacy Policy. You can ask us to access, correct or delete your information at any time.
What information should I have ready?
A rough idea of your electricity bill, whether you already have solar (and roughly how big it is), and when you'd like the system installed. A recent power bill is handy when installers call.
Do I have to accept a quote?
No. You can compare the quotes you receive and decide in your own time — including deciding not to proceed.
What size solar system do I need?
It depends on how much electricity you use, when you use it, your roof space and orientation, and whether you plan to add a battery or an EV. Installers size the system after looking at your bills and roof — which is why comparing a few quotes helps.
Does my roof need to face north?
North-facing panels generally produce the most across the day in Australia, but east- and west-facing roofs can work well too, especially if you use more power in the morning or late afternoon.
Can I add a battery later?
Usually, yes. Ask each installer whether the inverter they're quoting is battery-ready, or what would be needed to add a battery later.
Do I need solar to get a battery?
Most home batteries are paired with solar so they can store daytime solar energy for use at night. Some batteries can also charge from the grid. Installers can explain what suits your situation.
Will a battery keep my power on during a blackout?
Only if the system is designed and installed for backup. Not every battery setup provides backup power, so ask each installer specifically what will and won't run during an outage.
Can a battery be added to my existing solar system?
Often, yes. Depending on your current inverter, you may need a hybrid inverter or a battery with its own inverter (AC-coupled). Tell us about your existing system and installers will advise.
